Distance Relationships: He is in Ghana, She is in South Africa, yet their love breaks barriers

I am amazed at the love story between these two friends i have known for 10 years, If there is any reservations i have about long distance relationships, Temi and Bola made me realize that there is more to life and love than what goes on in our everyday environment.

Despite the distance that have always been a barrier in the growth of their love life, they have always used Facebook as a tool in bringing the distance home and how they have been able to do that in the last 5 years still beats me.

They started dating in 2009, our third year in the University and each of these years, their love kept waxing stronger. They virtually planned their future together, had it all worked out and the amazing thing is they are where they wanted to be, as planned eight years back. Temi had always wanted to be a Development Finance expert while Bola’s passion for teaching has been unwavering.

Immediately after service year in 2012, Bola moved to Scotland for a Masters Degree in Construction Management, and Temi joined KPMG to start his career as an Analyst in the Public sector.

Ordinarily, one would expect Temi to be the happening guy in town, gallivanting around with different ladies of his choice since Bola is nowhere near Lagos to notice what is going on with handsome Temi.

However, Temi chose to focus on one thing that is really important to him, beautiful Bola, who he called everyday from 2012 to 2014, chatted with on Facebook as well, till she got back in 2015 having concluded her Masters Degree.

In 2016, they both decided to step up their career once more by travelling for their higher degrees, Temi moved to Ghana for his Masters Degree in Development Finance and Bola moved to South Africa for her PHD in Construction Management.

Lest i forget, Temi and Bola got engaged late 2015; 7 years after Bola said ‘yes i want to be your girlfriend,’ it was worth the wait!

Temi spoke with me sometimes back  ‘It’s been a hell of a ride, deedee, but I’m grateful, it was worth the years. We are getting married this year, and of course you would play a huge part in our togetherness’

If I don’t play a huge part, who will? LOL!

Temi celebrated his birthday few days ago and what brought me close to tears was the powerful message his boo of 7 awesome years shared on Facebook, which trended and is still trending till now. We just can’t help it but to publish this amazing and ‘spiritual’ post. You would sure know it came from the heart of Bola.

See the birthday post below:

The 9th of March became a very special date to me 10 years ago when I became friends with this young man.
Today, I celebrate the man who is almost like everything to me.
You see, I don’t call anyone a “best friend” because that word appears extremely sacred to me but I call you same because you’ve earned it.
I can tell you anything and everything.
You’ve always encouraged be to do.
You tell me I can trust you…and I do!
And when I told you stuffs I struggled with,
You held me accountable and still do.
You’ve proven that they’re angels in form of men.
You’re not perfect, but you’re just my own definition of perfection.
With you, I have achieved so much I couldn’t dare.
You have stretched me higher and higher.
The seeds and positive words you’ve planted in me are germinating so well.
Sweets, you make me believe I can achieve everything.
You constantly stretch me and tell me not to remain complacent on my last achievement regardless of awesome it appears.
With you I can be all I want to be and soar to any heights.
Because you tell me I can just do it!
You constantly tell me I am the best even when I don’t appear so.
You think the world of me.
With you there is no iota of fear, insecurity or doubt.
7 years ago, when I started this relationship with you,
I saw a man who knew what he wanted: a goal getter.
A man who knew where he was going: a visioneer.
I saw a man whose fruits spoke and still speak for him.
You have been my first and my last because you haven’t given me any other reason to try another.
You are everything I ever wanted and would ever want.
God definitely had me in mind when He formed you.
We have shared and laughed…We have cried and held hands together.
We have seen each-other in the rawest forms.
We have fought and quarreled, we have become each other’s bests.
With you Temitope, my life is a lovely quilt, a pretty mosaic.
Filled with beautiful colours and hues.
My life is a lovely quilt of beautiful patches and blocks.
My life is like smorgasbord of beautiful moments,
And it is because of you that I have such happiness.
I am stand in awe of God for your life seeing you move from one phase of glory to another.
Your intellect and reasoning is outta this world, sometimes I get jealous of how extremely brilliant you’re. Lol
And that’s why I don’t mind whose face our child(ren) would have as long as they photocopy your kind of brain, lol tongue emoticon
You’ve always been your best.
Thank you for all you’ve brought to this relationship.
For all you are and all you would become,
I believe in you and I am proud of all you’ve achieved!
I love you and I wish you many more beautiful years just as beautiful as you are.
It’s a new era for you Darling…where no yesterday would be better,
Where your best days are still ahead of you.
I look forward to celebrating subsequent years with you, because I’d be with you all the way.
Even without my presence, have a very wonderful day. You always have my heart and soon you would have all of my body!

WoW! Who said love is not a beautiful thing! Yes It sure is…

They will be getting married later in the year, and we can’t even wait for the matrimony. It’s been a wait!

For those who are skeptical about long distance relationships, it is important to know that, love breaks barriers. All that is needed is discipline, perseverance and serious prayers ( you know you need that one, winks), and you will get there, just like Temi and Bola.
