Naija Wedding Stories: Anthony And Aby Defines Love

naija wedding story

In Aby’s words – We met in university (Uniben) or rather came across each other because I can’t remember an actual meeting. I was dating someone in his hostel at the time, so our friendship couldn’t really blossom. Fast-forward to a few years later, he sent me a message on LinkedIn and here we are!

Isn’t love a beautiful thing? Talk of fate, time, you would know that indeed love is a beautiful thing. This love story will make love LOVE.

Abieyuwa Continued:

I thought he was funny and pretty intelligent. Plus he could hold a good conversation. I really enjoyed talking with him.

Was it love at first sight?

Well, love at first phone call…lol. After we reconnected, we talked and chatted over the phone for about a year before we eventually met. I felt at peace with him even over the phone…he felt like “home”. He still does.

Abieyuwa continued:

He might have asked me out sometime within the one year of us speaking, but distance ( I was serving at the time) and the fact that I wasn’t ready for a relationship made me give a negative response. Even after I got to Lagos and we met, I still did shakara for about 2 months before I came to my senses. Within those 2 months, I made sure I saw him every weekend, lol…but I still didn’t say “Yes” until sometime around July/August 2016.

Were there issues/ challenges in the relationship, how did you deal?

Definitely! I mostly prayed and tried to be patient. We talked a lot about the issues as well. Communication is key in such cases.

Everything excites me about him! Lol…hard to pick one

We eventually dated for two years before he proposed on June 3rd, 2018

Why did you say yes?

Because he asked…lol. Plus I was excited to finally officially start a life with him.

What is your definition of love?

Love is the decision to be there for and care for another person no matter what. It is the decision to give freely of yourself without expecting anything in return.

Anthony had this to say about how he found love in Abieyuwa

Our friendship started way back in University. We were in the same faculty and had mutual friends. Although I was some years ahead, I had always admired her – albeit from a distance. She had a unique poise and charisma about her with such an infectious smile. I didn’t make a move till some 7 years later, we, however, remained good friends.

What was your first impression of her?

Some good looking shy baby with some extremely hot legs.

Was it love at first sight?

It was friendship and companionship leading to one of the best experience of my life.

What attracted you to her?

I had always thought that I would end up with a fair complexioned lady or some mixed race spouse, however, meeting and getting to know Aby changed alot..she basically shredded and re-wrote my preference list and I haven’t regretted a thing. It was like I found an answer to what I was and wasn’t looking for. The way she smiles, listening to her talk and just literally spending time with her are all added benefits.

How did you deal with relationship challenges?

Talking about it and learning to trust each other.

When did you know it was the right time to propose (Anthony)?

It was always there you know..you just have to be sure of yourself and seize the moment

How long did you date before your wedding?

Exactly 2 years of dating but about a lifetime of friendship

What advice do you have for ongoing relationship and lovebirds?

Anthony:

Marry your best friend, someone knows you (past and present), supports your dreams. Marry someone who completes you.

Abieyuwa:

Always communicate and try to be patient and understanding with each other, it will go a very long way.

This is indeed a beautiful love story, and on behalf of the Dee Weddings Team, Congratulations on your togetherness and may God lay his hands of blessings on your home. We dedicate this beautiful ‘Ellie Goulding’s song LOVE ME LIKE YOU DO to your family.
