I am sure you had set new year resolutions. Not this year though, but at some point in your life. You made plans to score a total A, lose some weights, clean yourself up more. Infact you had plans to get that beautiful babe of your dreams. While some of your new year resolutions may be action-laden and realizable, some may be too vague to even work on.
In other cases, you may have had that plan to work on those actionable new year resolutions only to realize that life happened and reality sets in, thus, affecting the plans you had in the new year. This post is not to encourage you to make more new year resolutions than last year or push you to achieving your new year resolutions, this post is actually set up to make you see the various easy, flexible and achievable new year resolutions that would give your life a new meaning getting into the new year.
What do you think? Reasonable, right? let’s get started with the new year resolutions you can easily keep
1. Give procrastination a hit on the face:
Start it! Just do it!
You will never know how easy or even how difficult it will be if you don’t start. Yes we have all the resolutions, plans, ideas to make thing certain obligations materialize. We even have the action plan to get it started, yet to start is a problem. You will only realize that you keep postponing getting things done with not actual reason for postponing.
I have always wanted to learn portrait retouching in photography. Infact it was a major plan in 2017, but up till now, I ask myself why I have failed to get to the level I wanted to be. I only started learning in November. Remember a whole 11 months wasted in procrastination.
Procrastination is a state of mind. Deal with your mind, re-align your thoughts, create a never say never attitude, and you are on your way to getting things done.
2. Reduce stress:
Nigeria is hard, in fact life is hard generally, and we know it. But why complicate matters by stressing yourself in the new year?
One of the greatest health destroyers out there is stress. It can damage your healthy lifestyle to a point of no repair, but it can also also be managed through meaningful and conventional methods like learning to stop working, sleeping on time, and eating healthy food. Look at the little things that make you happy and engage in them when you are stressed out. I guess they help a great deal.
3. Spend less time on TV and more on yourself:
The average Nigerian spend hours in front of the television catching up with the latest event, fashion and lifestyle gist in town. The moment you realize spending too much time on TV rather than creating avenues to develop new skills and follow your talent, the better for you.
Instead of setting those huge new year resolutions, why not make a plan to take huge breaks from watching TV to develop those skills you have always wanted?
4. Bring back the piggybank:
Just this year alone, I have heard stories of people breaking the bank with monies in their piggy bank. Just this year alone, I have seen banks make heavy deductions from savings, with terms such as maintenance cost, sms alert to mention a few.
Piggy bank is a safe traditional way of saving little to become big. All those extra funds you have been wasting around could just be dropped in the piggy bank instead of being spent on irrelevancies, and you will be surprised at mid year or end of the year that the money in your piggy bank can get you a lot of things you dreamt of having.
So, why not, if not a piggy bank in the new year?
5. Change your hobby into a career:
I used to be an accountant, but I discovered that following my hobby pays more, and here I have you read me every line of the way.
You think you can’t be like me. It starts with a mighty step. A step to be more positive and proactive. That hobby you enjoy to do can eventually become a career for you. Imagine what joy and what life you would have when you make enough cash doing what you love. All you need to do is create a break even point between fun, enjoyment and being productive and you will have an amazing and well balanced 2018.
Your hobby can eventually become an amazing career for you. Trust me, I’ve been there!
6. Spend less time on social media:
A lot of people make money off social media, ask bloggers and brands, they know better.
If you are just on social media for fun then you may have an unproductive 2018. It is fine to catch up with trending issues online and connect with those you love, but the moment you realize that you stay consistent on social media with no meaningful developmental impact in your life, then it is time to make a change!
7. Learn how to fight:
Enough of the trending rape issues and rape stories. Focus on yourself more this new year by learning to be defensive.
Not only that, you also need to be security and safety conscious of people and surroundings. You need to stop being nonchalant about your locations in the new year. The world is going crazy everyday. Make the new year count by learning how to protect yourself.
8. Let the positive changes be permanent:
You have decided to laugh more, become romantic, face your fears and deal with your insecurities. Now is the time to make these changes permanent.
The truth is, a lot of us have issues with being consistent with change. We have become so used to being ordinary and mediocre that the moment we make a shift from our comfortable ways to something more defined and difficult, staying consistent usually becomes a big deal. The new year should serve as that perfect time to stick to your change routine. Act it out!
9. Stop African time:
It takes more than just talking and doing to achieve this. A lot of us are already used to lateness that we seem to tag it African time. The new year should be the time to correct yourself consciously that punctuality should your watchword in everything you do. You need to gather all the tricks you can make use of online to ensure you deal with the issue of African time.
The hallmark of a great person cum professional is punctuality. Deal with it!
10. Smile while you’ve still got teeth
It does not cost a dime to smile, and it does not take anything away from you. We know the country is hard, but see, you need to smile while you still can. This does not make you ‘a suffering and smiling’ kind of person but rather makes you an all round emotional, friendly and accommodating individual.
Here you have it all, 10 new year resolutions you can easily keep, rather than put up with bogus and mighty resolutions you will not be able to deal with it. The new year is yours for the taking. Have a great year ahead.
